Week #22: One Came Home

This school year, I really have not chosen books any differently than any other. There are usually two ways that I choose a book to read for the following week. The first one is I'm sure he most common way among our class, which is a book being recommended by another classmate. The second way is when it is a book that is recommended to me by a family member or freind.

            Title: One Came Home
            Genre: Young Adult Mystery/Adventure, Western
            Author: Amy Timberlake

One came home is a refreshingly different young adult book about a girl named Georgie in 1871 Wisconsin. Georgie has two unique skill-sets, one being her sharp-shooting, and the other being able to argue and make points against people she really shouldn't. In one of these instances when she spoke a bit too much led to her sister going missing and turning up as a corpse. Georgie is unbelieving of this and sets out on a Wild West adventure to find out what really happened to her sister.

As I said this is a really refreshing book, and is actually quite fun being that it is set in the Wild West. It was well written and had a very good story (not much inappropriate content) which ended up being a very different and fantastic book. I highly recommend this book for everyone in our class!

Week #21: Heart of a Samurai

This week I read "Heart of a Samurai" by Margi Preus
It is the true story of a Japanese teenager named Manjiro who lived in the mid 1800's, and experienced an amazing adventure. The book starts with his fishing crew off the coast of Japan who are struggling to catch fish. Suddenly a large storm interrupts them and destroys their ship, leaving them floating away from their home in the ocean. After some smaller adventures, they are found by an american whaling ship, and are rescued, not knowing anything about these knew people. Manjiro learns to love the people and sea, and is soon taken to a place he knows nothing about- America.
The fact that this is a true story is pretty cool, and it is told in a way that doesn't have a beautiful writing style, but explains the event in a simple and interesting words. It is an easy read, and is about 300 pages long. I recommend this for anyone that wants to read a realistic adventure book.

Week #20: The Maze Runner

Book: The Maze Runner
        Author: James Dashner
        Genre: Young Adult Fiction/Futuristic

The Maze Runner cover.png        I can't say much other than what I said last week when I read this book, because the tone and the greatness of this book didn't change. If you are interested in reading this book, I strongly recommend that you read my last weeks post were I talked about The Maze Runner.

The ending to the book was very well done, and it has definitely made me excited to read the next two books in the series. I am now becoming quite the fan of this book, and I am sure anyone could be if you understand this book for deeper than just what it says on the pages.
